Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - not very powerful
I purchased this shredder to use at home to destroy sensitive work documents and to protect against personal identity theft. I wanted a cross-cut shredder for extra security and one that was strong enough to shred plastic. This model met both criteria and was very reasonably priced. However, in the future I'll look for one with a stronger motor. This one struggles to digest more than 4 or 5 pages at a time. Also, I'd really like to be able to drop junk mail -- especially unsolicited credit card offers -- right down the slot without even opening up the envelopes, but this machine can't handle that, which is a disappointment.

When they rate how many sheets of paper the shredder can deal with at a time, they must use tissue paper or something, because this thing craps out at about 4 sheets, which means that I have to open the credit card "special offers" that come by the pound every day, instead of feeding the envelopes straight in. A little bit of a pain, but for home use it's fine. I thought about returning it as soon as I opened it, because I really do think they overpromised on the capacity, but all and all, it does the job.

This is my second shredder. My other one is a small strip cut, that also works on CDs. This Fellowes 32057 Powershred is larger, quieter and I believe shreds documents a little more quickly. I like that the bin is larger because it holds more paper shreds, plus it's enclosed so that my cat can't get into it and pull the shreds out, which she did with my other shredder. For the price, I think this is a perfect shredder for personal, home use.

- Jams Easily
A week after I purchased this shredder, a neighbor bragged off how wonderful his cheap Staples brand shredder works. UGH!!!!!!!! This Fellowes shredder jams easily, tires easily (gets hot)and, really can't handle more than a couple of pieces of paper at a time.

I suggest skipping this and heading off to your nearby Staples. I am pretty sure my neighbor told me he spent under $40 on his WONDERFUL shredder that zipped through a couple of garbage bags of documents in 15 minutes.

I researched sturdier and more secure shredders than our (roughly 10 year) old one. I just needed something for our computer room, no home office, but about four years of records and statements that I want to safely discard quickly. I followed the directions and am sure to oil it each time I change the bag. I'm so relieved to have found this great solution! BTW, the price on Amazon couldn't be beat!
