Amazon.com Review: For a century and a half, since a woman in New York invented the hand-crank freezer, making ice cream has been an American family value. Mom blended the ice cream mixture; Dad filled the maker's wooden tub with ice and rock salt to achieve the below-freezing temperature needed to produce smooth confections; kids clamored to turn the crank; and everyone happily consumed big bowls of ice cream as a reward. This family-bonding activity remains as vibrant today as it was through a century-and-a-half of "progress." With various ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet recipes included, this old-fashioned White Mountain ice cream maker maintains the tradition. Only the use of modern stainless steel for the freezer can and dasher and the electric motor distinguish this rugged maker from the one earlier generations enjoyed. And years from now it will still be used, knitting together a family's history. --Fred Brack

I will be returning this ice cream freezer within the week. I have made ice cream with it 3 times and yesterday when I tried to make it again the motor was making a terrible noise. I had previously returned another one of this same freezer due to problems with the motor. I do not recommend it. My first White Mountain lasted for years but I do not think it was made by Rival. I've had nothing but problems with the Rival White Mountain electric ice cream freezer.

This is the classic ice cream freezer and we've been using one for over 40 years (many replacements, of course). The secret to the leaky bucket is to keep the wood swollen. Can't happen in our DRY homes and basements. So, take it from my wife's uncle (now 80+ yrs old) the cure is fiberglass. Just get a kit from the auto supply store that you use to fix auto bodies. Follow the directions, spreading the cloth all over the inside of the wooden bucket. It'll make your wood last lots longer and NO ... Read More

I am very disappointed in this white mountain electric 6 quart ice cream maker. If the can and dasher are truly stainless steel, why is it continually rusting. Rust on the dasher, inside the bottom of the can, and also on the spindle at the bottom of the bucket. Who wants to eat rust or take a chance on feeding their family rust? Been making ice cream for more than 50 years. Could not find a customer service number for the company to ask questions. Will buy a different make and eat $200. ???? It beats ... Read More

This is incredible. Have grown up around family who has always made home-made icecream. My grandfather had a White Mountain I.C.Maker that made the best icecream. When he passed away, no one knew what happened to his icecream maker. My mother mentioned it was a White Mt. I looked locally, couldn't find it and finally decided to purchase another brand at a local store. It was terrible. Plastic parts inside and tub, icecream was course. Motor was so weak. I returned it and found out that if I could find ... Read More
