- Beautiful book!
I read this book at a time in my life when I was feeling pretty low. My mother had recently died and I was overwhelmed with that experience. This book showed me that my struggles were so insignificant to the struggles that some other people have. This book grounded me, gave me hope and inspired me. I am so appreciative to Mr. Sparks for taking me on this around the world adventure with him and his brother and for sharing this touching, real life story with me and other readers. I was initially turned on to Nicholas Sparks because my girlfriend told me that I have a similar writing style as him, which naturally piqued my curiosity.

Having not read any of Nicholas Sparks' other work, but knowing from hearsay that his books are in the vein of romantic dramas and tragic tales, I was expecting something sappy.

Well this book has its moments of sap, but it's not bad.

I am not a fan of fiction, so when I found this memoir, I thought I'd give it a try. (I have never read Sparks' fiction works, though I have seen some of the movies.)
